Insurgency: Sandstorm is a game of team-based tactics and objective-oriented gameplay complete with player versus player, competitive matchmaking, and co-operative game modes versus AI set in a fictional, contemporary Middle Eastern conflict.

Your soldier’s appearance, weapons, attachments, armor, and amount of carried ammo are all up to you. Call in airstrikes, request helicopter support, drive vehicles with mounted weapons, and use a wide range of specialist weaponry from grenades to drones to C-4 explosives.


Prepare for a hardcore depiction of combat with deadly ballistics, light attack vehicles, destructive artillery, and unprecedented audio design that puts the fear back into the genre. Death comes fast, ammunition must be carefully managed, and the environment must be tactically navigated at every step toward victory.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is available right now on Steam. A 10% loyalty discount will be given to fans that own the original Insurgency. This additional discount will be offered until the end of March 2019.

The first major community update was announced last week and will include five weapons, much-requested community features, and new cosmetics.

Trailer looks undeniably awesome, incredibly professional and on the level of Triple-A studios.

Sadly "deadly ballistics" as asserted here and "high lethality" as advertised on Steam clearly aren't the case, or at least mean extremely different things to what they meant when utilised by yourselves (NWI) while describing Ins2014/DoI.

7.62x51 rounds from a SCAR into the heart and lungs don't even kill unarmoured targets.
This is also true for all the AR15 variants and the AK's.

I'm not the only person who's been posting about this nearly daily since July 2018.

Is it just really low on the bugfixing list or is it intentionally misleading advertising?

This for many of us is an elephant in the room. Please clear it up once and for all - it's been half a year.

  • If your vision is not for a high lethality shooter, then why mislead those of us who loved Ins2014 and DoI and pretend it is?

  • If your vision is for a high lethality shooter, why has this not been fixed? Will it be fixed with the February patch? If not, what importance does the team have on fixing the gunplay and when can we expect it to be fixed?

  • If your vision is not for a high lethality shooter but you intend to allow the modders to mod things, will this extend to enable us to turn Sandstorm into a high lethality shooter to play on our own servers? If so, when can we expect to be able to fix this ourselves?

  • Is there an intention to make armour SAPI plate sized? This is a big thing it seems everybody is hugely behind and there has been no comment from NWI on it.

A response here to each point would be greatly appreciated.

Recieved response as personal message from Netheos. Posting here as I'm aware I'm not the only person who wants to know. Supposedly his answer came from the lead game designer.

Lethality is to remain where it is as NWI believe it is lethal enough. Unarmoured targets shrugging of SCAR rounds to the heart is fine, this is as-designed and not a bug.

Bulletpoint 1 wasn't really addressed.
Bulletpoint 2 is covered ^.
Bulletpoint 3 is a maybe - it's possible we can fix the balance and weapon damage ourselves in the future but they will not confirm.
Bulletpoint 4 has been confirmed not to be happening. Apparently this was experimented with and determined more efficient from a performance standpoint to not be the case.

General theme was:
"gameplay trumps realism" - apparently NWI think this gameplay is superior to Ins2014/DoI.
"the gameplay of the game has to be balanced" - apparently there isn't a battle rifle meta and the game is balanced.

While the answer is appreciated Netheos, I will reinstall Sandstorm if and when modding tools are implemented enabling these unimmersive, unbalanced and non-lethal design decisions to be fixed on private servers.

I've no idea what else to do as a customer other than take my business elsewhere.

@whitby I feel your pain and although I feel fixing things like hit reg and hit boxes could help the cause at least a little I do find myself getting very tired and wanting to play less. That being said losing a few players here and there like us is certainly not their main concern at this point as growing a larger more casual player base is. Let’s be real they want more people and more money and going back to a older insurgency feel will more than likely not get this done unfortunately. People have different tastes but ours is of the minority these days it would seem either way it is what it is and I will keep an eye out and also see how this next update goes when ever that happens. For now I have been browsing the idea of a return to games like Squad and RS:Vietnam for a bit until games like Ready or Not hit the market. I have been playing a game for a bit now called Ground Branch and currently it is a tad ghetto but a lot of fun and I feel has quite a bit of potential. Anyways just wanted to throw that out there and good luck NWI you guys certainly have baffled me with some of the decisions but also some of them I get. That being said how do you ever expect competitive to be taken seriously when your dead teammates can communicate with living players? You call this game realistic. That’s realistic? Where are your heads at this is just pathetic. By far the most mind boggling decision I have seen yet IMO. Hell casual does not support this... FFS give your heads a shake. Hey my opinion I guess but it makes it impossible for me to take it seriously. Want to love the game guys (220+ hours now). Thought this was my go to and has been for a bit now but that’s fading quickly... Ohhh well. “The fucking way she goes”

Can you please explain, why you think it's like that, when a 7,62 rifle doesn't kill sb to the chest with no armor?

I totally agree on that with NWI, so basically everything is fine in terms of damage model!
