This used to work at some point as I recall, that clicking next to the box would make it disappear. But lately the only way to hide it is to select another object, for example another vehicle. Then if you select your current vehicle again and click next to it the box disappears as it should. This can be a problem because the box often hides the portion of the map that I need to look at.
